HowTo: Last Mile - Connecting light string to SSR board  (Matt_ Stemple)

Step 6 : Wire to SSR board

The light string connected wire is now attached to the SSR board via a screw block. The load wire is screwed in while the common wire is wire nut attached to the other common wires.

The screw block is a rather $$ component. Using a male connector matching the female connectors outlined above could save money and make for a faster install in the field.

Step 7 : Summary

I used this method of connecting the wires because I was seeking a smaller connection foot print. Also I did not want to spend additional money buying pre made extension cords that are too long or too short and housing outlets. I am able to wire directly from the lights with little modification to the SSR board.

NOTE: Keeping the original plug on the string allowed use of the existing fuse that is part of the light string.

This method used bulk 18 AWG wire ($0.14/ft) allowing every wire length to be the exact length required. It created a cleaner looking display during the day.
