HowTo: Last Mile - Connecting light string to SSR board  (Matt_ Stemple)

                    Page 1   Page 2       Next Page >>

Step 1 : Method Overview

The last mile refers to the final connection between the switching hardware and the light string.

The following HowTo will use 1/4" Female Lug Crip Connectors also known as FastOn connectors. The connector is crimped on to 18 AWG 'lamp Cord' that will slip on to a modified male plug end of the light strings.

Step 2 : Crimp Connector Up Close

Step 3 : Attach Connector to Wire

Strip 1/4" of the 18 AWG wire insulation. Slip connector over the exposed wire until connector cover all exposed wire. Using a crimp tool crimp connector to wire.

Step 4 : Prepair light String plug

Using a dike, cut about 1/4 of the light string plug prong. This allows the connector to fully cover all of the exposed prong.

Step 5 : Attach Connector to Light String

The connector should securely connect to the light string plug. If needed use a flat blade screw driver to spread the female connector a little to allow for easier connection. Be sure the plug is attached such that it will not fall off or come lose.
