Attempting to run vixen with linux, will it work.

I got this idea this year to control my Christmas lights, so the rational person that I am immediately built a computer to control them, BEFORE RESEARCHING. I installed pclinuxos for my operating system (Im a 50/50 linux/windows user) I want to use vixen but im not sure if it will work. Im getting mixed signals from this forum, most places say that vixen will not currently work with linux. Then some say that it will work under wine. I have no idea what wine is. So is it possible to run vixen, and if so how. Im not good with the whole coding part of linux, so details may be needed.
Thanks,
Zach
