HowTo: SSR Enclosure using extension cords  (Bill Adelsberger)

Step 6 : Mount the cover

Slip the cover over the wires and onto the base. Drill a pilot hole through the cover at each end and secure the cover with two small screws.

Step 7 : Build the wire frame

I live in western New York and we tend to get a lot of rain and/or snow during the Christmas season. To help protect the SSR electronics I mount the unit on top of a wire frame made from 1/4 threaded rod. The frame is simply a couple of two inch pieces and a couple of 18 inch pieces brazed (welded) together and painted.

The SSR unit slips onto the top of the frame using the two 1/4 holes that were drilled into, but not through the base. This approach allows the electronics to be removed at the end of the Christmas season, and the metal base to be retrieved when the ground thaws in the spring.

Step 8 : View of the enclosure bottom

This picture is a close up of the bottom of the SSR. You can probably tell I didn't spend a lot of time chopping the RJ45 opening perfectly square or painting the bottom.

Step 9 : Electrician's knot

Tie a knot in the electrical cords using the knot show in the picture.
