HowTo: HowTo: SSR enclosure on the cheap.  (Andy Hough)

Step 1 : Go to Walmart

Buy regular soap dishes for $.99 each. The SSRs Fit great inside.

Step 2 : Drill 3/16 holes.

Drill 8 holes in as close to the bottom of the dish as you can get. I tried drilling holes side by side for the Channel wires, but it did not work as well.

Drill 2 holes in the side for the power wire. These should be right next to each other and then carved out to put the whole wire through.

Pull the wires as far as you need to load the SSR with ease, then pull them back out to get it to fit well.

Also, I found that the Wire nut was the hardest thing to put on, I did it first, which helped.

Finally, I threaded the wires from inside to outside. Both the hot and neutral. This made it a little easier to identify which channels were what. I will color code everything next year to make it easy.

Step 3 : Drill the Cat5 hole along the opening.

I drilled the cat5 hole big enough to fit the wire through so inlike with the opening so I could easily switch wires around.

I fould that commercial connectors would not fit because of all that extra tail on the ends.

Step 4 : Wire Lengths

I set up several different formats for the extension cords.

Some 6" to use for arches and stuff that had 4 channels close.

Then I used the left over plugs with 6 or 15 feet of cord to power other SSRs.

I decided to go with 6 foot cords all the way around just because of the cost $1/ea at walmart all the time.

I used a few 15 foot cords to power my trees and other stuff that was far off the path.

Step 5 : Additional waterproofing.

I intended to bead the inside where the wires come in with sylicone calk, and either tape or saran warp the whole things with the wires sticking out at both ends, but this season it rained twice and snowed/thawed twice, and I had 100% of them work, so if yoru lazy, dont worry about it.
